New Jersey band FRND CRCL is riding high after the release of their most recent album Suburban Dictionary at the end of June. BareBones Ent was able to catch up with them and chat about all things Suburban Dictionary, and the band. Check out what all FRND CRCL had to say when they chatted with BareBones Ent.
BBE: How do you feel that FRND CRCL stands out in today’s pop punk scene?
FRND CRCL: I like to think that we’re a band that truly doesn’t give a fuck about a lot of things. We’re an independent band and that’s a very freeing feeling because we get to make our own decisions. We make music that we like for ourselves; No gimmicky features and no pandering to anyone’s artistic wishes but our own. We do what makes sense to us. Ironically, the end result is not only pop punk rock as fuck but it’s commercially digestible.
BBE: Is this always the type of music that you have wanted to make or has it changed over time?
FRND CRCL: 100%. I’m sure if I looked back to when the band was started, we would’ve never imagined making a song like “Orange Tang” because it utilizes so many modern elements.
BBE: You recently released your 3rd album Suburban Dictionary. What was the creation of this album like for you?
FRND CRCL: Creatively, it was absolutely liberating. We’ve delved into these songs far deeper than any other project before. We’re extremely proud of the end result and our team of artists supporting us. (They make us look good)
BBE: Do you feel the creation process has gotten easier from your 1st album to this one, or has the creation of each album been vastly different?
FRND CRCL: It changes. It’s never really “easy,” but challenging in different ways. Our previous works were learning experiences. We built and worked on songs in different ways than we did for this album. I like to think that we build, learn, and apply new techniques and sounds to each project.
BBE: What has the response been like for this album?
FRND CRCL: Incredible. The press has been very kind to us. We just found out we made a Spotify playlist this week so we’re very excited.
BBE: Have you been playing any of the new songs at shows or were you holding on to them until the album dropped?
FRND CRCL: We’ve been slowly incorporating the singles into our sets as they’ve been released. Now that our album is out, we’re doing a full revamp of our set. Get ready to experience a completely new era of FRND CRCL.
BBE: Is there any song you have not played live yet that you are especially excited to play?
FRND CRCL: “No Bad Days,” “Don’t Wait Up,” and “Orange Tang.”
BBE: It looks like you have a nice amount of shows booked out for the remainder of the year. Is this year pretty much set or are you still looking to add some more shows in?
FRND CRCL: We’re still looking for some dates to plug in; We’re open to any opportunities that come our way.
BBE: What can people expect from a FRND CRCL show?
FRND CRCL: With all of these new songs at our back, people can expect a show unlike anything we’ve ever put on before.
BBE: What is the best way for fans to connect with the band?
FRND CRCL: Our Instagram for the big updates. TikTok because we love to go live for fan interaction. Threads because the community is so fresh and active.
