BBE: How would you best describe your music to listeners that may not have heard you before?

GT: We are primarily alternative rock! We love the term ‘genre-fluid’ since we’ve always felt like we don’t necessarily fit into any of the main genres, but we’ve gotten comparisons to Now, Now, Tonight Alive, Paramore, and PVRIS before.

BBE: When do you feel that you knew you had something special with this band?

GT: Prior to the pandemic, we were writing material that was different than what we had done in the past. We felt it had more of a purpose and more meaning than our other projects. The stories felt more real to us, and the songs were just better. We wanted it to feel new and fresh to our fans because it felt that way to us. That’s when we decided to come out with “goldthread” material.

BBE: Last summer, you released your debut EP, Dear Icarus. How was the creation of the EP for you?

GT: Making the EP was amazing! We got to travel to Canada to work with our producer, Phoenix Arn-Horn, and she was incredible. She was able to take our songs and breathe new life into them and really mold them into the sound of “goldthread.” It was the last thing we were able to do as a band before the world shut down from COVID, so I have such fond memories of hanging out in their home studio and creating these songs.

BBE: With this being an independent release. What additional challenges does that bring you on top of usual challenges?

GT: The most difficult thing about being an independent release is honestly just getting people to find it and listen to it. It’s really difficult to build an audience, especially in today’s digital world. Social media is a beast that can make or break your audience, and it can be hard to punch through all the noise.

BBE: With this being your debut EP, how anxious were you to start seeing initial listener reactions to start coming in?

GT: It’s definitely very nerve-wracking to release music of any kind because of how personal it’s always been for us as songwriters. We want people to connect with the music and enjoy it. When we switched directions a bit and realized what “goldthread” would sound like, I think we were nervous how people would react to the change. It’s not as heavy hitting or rock as some of our previous material in other projects, so hoping that people would be receptive to it was definitely stressful!

BBE: How have people reacted to Dear Icarus?

GT: Honestly, it’s been so amazing. We have so many people that have stepped into the material and really connected with it. We’ve been able to connect with so many new fans who have connected with the material, and it’s been so awesome to see their stories shine through the music as well.

BBE: We saw that you worked with Phoenix and Mercedes Arn-Horn on your videos and EP. We have a long history with the sisters, they are fantastic people. How did you all connect?

GT: Phoenix and Mercedes are amazing! Truly some of the most genuine and kindhearted people you will ever meet. We actually had the chance to open for them a few times in the past under Courage My Love, and our guitarist Lauren has actually taken some guitar lessons from Mercedes over Skype. It just sort of blossomed into an amazing friendship where we were able to record with them, and during the pandemic we were FaceTime gaming buddies! They’re incredible and we love them!

BBE: How do you feel working with them has helped your release?

GT: Above all, I think it was honestly just so empowering and inspiring to create the album. Phoenix was able to hone our sound and knew exactly what kind of vibe we were going for at every turn. On top of that, just as people, we were able to have so many conversations about the music industry and the expectations on bands. I think they really instilled a new level of comfort and confidence in us as friends and as a band.

BBE: What do you have planned for your 2022?

GT: The goal for 2022 is get back out there post-COVID and start playing some shows again! We also are finishing up some new material and trying to get ready to head back in the studio!

BBE: What is the best way for fans to keep up to date on your band and connect with you?

GT: Social media is always the best! We’re @goldthreadband (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram) on all outlets 🙂
