Q and A with The Home Team

Seattle alt pop punk band, The Home Team, have been steadily growing in popularity and building on the successes of their previous album releases. The Revival Records band is poised to keep up the momentum and getting their name out there more and more. BareBones Ent got the chance to sit down with them and talk all things The Home Team. Check out what all we had to say when we chatted with lead singer, Brian, of The Home Team.

BBE: What does The Home Team mean to you?

Brian: For us it’s what we’ve pretty much devoted our lives to. Our most recent album Slow Bloom is all about the insecurities that come with following your dreams, and if we didn’t believe in this project, we wouldn’t have taken the leap. For our whole lives we’ve always looked forward to when our music would be able to sustain us financially, so that we can do what we love to do on a full-time basis with no distractions. The Home Team has always been our best means to achieve that goal.

BBE: Let’s take things back to like Warped and other festivals. If you walked up to someone and could only play one song for them to find out about your band. What would it be and why?

Brian: For me (Brian), I would most likely pick the song “Slow Bloom”. I have other songs on the album that I like even more, but that song I think best encapsulates what we’re about. It’s got the groove that we really like (and that will most likely be even more present on our next record), it showcases my vocals really well, and it’s just weird enough to stand out among other artists. There’s a reason it’s the title track of the record haha.

BBE: How do you feel your band best relates to fans?

Brian: We are constantly responding to DMs and interacting with people on social media, but overall Patreon has been the absolute best way for us to get in touch with our top fans and the people that are ride or die for us. We have a private discord that is Patron-only so that we can keep it a little more intimate than opening the floodgates. Plus, everyone on Patreon knows way more about us and our music because of the additional content that is exclusive to them. If you’re a fan, I highly recommend joining!

BBE: You released a music video for the song “FOMO (Bored of You)”. How did the filming of that video come together?

Brian: Filming “FOMO” was pretty funny because we didn’t intend for it to be a big undertaking. The song was originally slotted to be a deep cut on the record, but we had to withhold it which turned it into being a single layer down the road. So, we thought “the last few videos have been a lot of work, let’s just go to a studio and have fun with this one.” Well, one thing led to another and we just kept having new ideas, and the shoot day took like 14 hours. Suffice to say it ended up being our most expensive music video yet.

BBE: How have fans reacted to it?

Brian: People love it! It’s unsurprising to us because it sounds like a song from Slow Bloom (because it is) and obviously our fans love Slow Bloom. In our opinion it’s a great song, but it wasn’t a single choice of ours when we were releasing the record. It’s performed pretty much as well as we expected; people love it, but it hasn’t surpassed the top songs in popularity.

BBE: What is it about creating music videos that you enjoy? What part do you not care for?

Brian: We’re a super visual band, so being able to get weird and associate our music with dope visuals has always been a lot of fun for us. The prep can be a doozy though. We don’t pull punches when it comes to making our videos, so it takes a ton of work to produce them. Sometimes it does feel like it’s not always worth it, since a dumb tiktok that took 10 minutes to make could perform way better than our multi-thousand-dollar work of art, but that’s not always why we do it. We do it because we’re artists who make art. Pretty simple.

BBE: This was off your 2021 album, Slow Bloom. Looking back now, how do you feel about the album?

Brian: I mean, it’s definitely the best work of art we’ve ever created and it’s going to be tough to top. There’s a lot of security that comes with knowing we made something that we’re really proud of, but everyone knows we’re not stopping here, so there’s a lot more pressure for the next album now. That said, we’re pretty stoked to get started.

BBE: How have fans reacted to the music?

Brian: Great! Our platform has grown exponentially since releasing Slow Bloom, and this album has been drastically more popular than Better Off. We’re not surprised, since we were much more stoked on this one, but it’s a relief that we’re making so much progress towards our goal. The support has been really fantastic.

BBE: Are you guys already at work on the next one? Can you share any updates?

Brian: We’ve already gotten to work on the next album, but if Slow Bloom was any indication of our new writing style, it’ll probably be a while before it’s out. We take our time writing music, mostly because we can’t handle the idea of rushing anything, it’s too risky. We want to make sure every single song we ever put out gets the attention it deserves so that we can be really proud of our work.

BBE: What is the best way for fans to interact with you, and stay up-to-date with your band?

Brian: As I mentioned earlier, our Patreon has been a fantastic way for fans to interact with us! Other than that, Instagram is where we post any major announcement and Daniel runs the Twitter which often results in us interacting with fans very regularly.

BBE: Anything else you would like to add?

Brian: Come see us on tour this fall with Real Friends, With Confidence and Taylor Acorn all across the US!
