Stud Count Album Review

Our friends in Stud Count recently released their self-titled album via Smartpunk, and we were pumped to check it out. Admittedly we don’t listen to a lot of punk music, but definitely read on below and see what we thought.

Stud Count Album Art

I really like the way Stud Count went about the beginning of the album. “The Way I Walk” takes time to build anticipation with drums until the rest of the band kicks in. By doing this it’s like building pressure under the cap, and when the band hits that bursting point you are right there with them.

The leads directly into “Pleasure Center” which is a hard-hitting song that will have you headbanging along in no time. The overall band is just firing on all cylinders here. I want to hit on just a couple more immediately after then I promise we can jump around.

“Through My Window”, is such a great intro song to new listeners or people that might not be completely readier for some of the more aggressive songs on the album. While the song still has some heavy groove to it; the vocals are so welcoming. The song does such a great job of mixing the punk stylings with softer vocals. Then we have “Talkin’ 2 You”, I love the vocal styling on this one. This song feels like a windows down jam. I could see this song live and the crowd just jamming a long. Now we can jump around.

The songs, while not a running theme, all flow so well together and make it easy to listen to. I really enjoy the song “Push”. This was one of the songs that really jumped out to me on early listens to the album. Just an absolutely stellar song.

I do want to touch on how much I love the song “Delicacy”, while it is the shortest song on the album it hits. Just search out for it and give it a listen. Trust me. Another one “Give Me Time” is such a solid song, and I don’t know why but it always gets me when a band shouts out their name then just fucking grooves.

Now like I said earlier we don’t necessarily listen to a lot of punk rock, but this album feels like a pure punk album. Didn’t really notice until later that all of the songs are relatively short, but all are so hard-hitting that you just roll through the whole album. I think one of the best things about this album is that it’s great for punk fans, and people looking for something new in general. The album is very accessible to everyone. I definitely recommend checking out and seeing if it is a new band for you, maybe even your new favorite band.
