Tracing Paces is a rock band out of Houston, TX that is doing their part to breath a new life into rock n’ roll. The band builds upon their love of classic rock and inspirations to bring fans an almost nostalgic sound all their own. Sit back and check out what all Tracing Paces had to say when they chatted with BareBones Ent.

BBE: How would you describe your music to new listeners?

Jason Oquendo: Simply put, we’re a Rock N’ Roll band. If you try to box us into anything more than that, we’re quickly going to outgrow that specific idea, throwing something completely unexpected on the table. I think that’s already pretty evident with the first 2 singles, and will only ring more true with this EP. Until this whole project is finished and released, and we can all step back and analyze it for what it is, this is always going to be a hard question to answer.

BBE: What is it about this style of music that draws you to it?

Mateo Maldonado: I think what’s so beautiful is that everyone is drawn to our music for very different reasons. Due to the incredibly wide range of influences in the writing and recording process, each listener’s ear seems to be caught by different aspects of the music. For some, it’s the 80’s Rock vocal leads, which are few and far between these days, and for others it’s that basis in funk and groove heard though my guitar and writing, or Will’s drumming. Maybe it’s that synth part you never knew was there, but somehow pieces it together for you. It seems this kind of variety creates an intense auditory experience for a wide variety of listeners of all backgrounds.

BBE: Do you feel that you have reached a steady place or do you think your style is always developing or evolving?

Will Sadler: Constantly evolving, for sure. I am of the belief that a group is never done evolving, and though there are steadier times than others, change is the only constant, in art especially. It’s definitely been an uphill battle learning to find a middle ground between the vast differences in inspiration, but when we manage to get a glimpse of the result here and there, it makes it all worthwhile. We are young and have so much time to find our sound, and even in the last 6 months have gone through more evolution than I could’ve imagined.

BBE: You recently released a new song “No More”. What does that song mean to you?

JO: Lyrically, this song explores the experience of independence from habit, and acceptance of change, counter to what is suggested in our prior single, “Hold On”. In these two songs, I intended to explore the age-old question of persistence vs change, in my case, regarding relationships.

BBE: How do you hope that song resonates with listeners?

WS: We have heard the song best described as a wakeup call, and I think that captures the intent perfectly. As mentioned by Jason, “No More” is a call to move on, and let go of what is holding you back, whatever that may be.

BBE: What has the response been like so far from fans?

MM: Incredible. Our message is becoming more and more cohesive with each song, and the reception definitely reflects that. It’s a song we think will stand the test of time for sure.

BBE: Is this song part of a larger release? What details are you able to share on that?

WS: This single is the last before our full EP release, and we are extremely excited to be sharing more details on that quite soon. We think it’s the perfect lead into what we believe is a revolutionary project in rock music.

BBE: What goals do you have for your music?

JO: It’s my belief that there will be a revival of rock and roll, and if anyone is going to front this musical evolution, it might as well be us. We know we bring something fresh to the table, something that can take the world by storm, and we hope to do just that.

BBE: What is next for your band?

WS: Definitely getting out and touring all around this summer. We want to bring this music to as many ears as possible, and there’s no better way than in a live setting, with real people, so that is. for sure the next step after this release.

BBE: What is the best way for fans to follow your music and connect with you?

MM: We share updates and content every single day on our social media, especially our Instagram, so be sure to head over there and connect with us! You can also check our website (www.tracingpacesmusic.com) for show dates and more details.

BBE: Anything else you would like to add?

WS: We want everyone to know how much time and heart we’ve put into this project, and that this is only the start. Thank you to everyone who listens to the music.
