Road To 15

BareBones Ent is coming up on 15 years (May 2027) helping bands and fans come together. We like to say that we are introducing music lovers to their next favorite band and hopefully helped some bands along the way. We would not have made it to this point without the love and support of so many people! So we wanted to take this time to thank everyone who has helped us along the way and show a spotlight on them again! Each month we will be adding a new person/band to the list. We are a few months behind due to an absolutely crazy and stressful summer, so we are kicking it off a few months at once.

Shaun Gunnels (The Background/Southern Weather/LaFerris)

Shaun was one of the first real friends I made in the music business. The Background was opening for Set It Off and Handguns at Sons Of Hermann Hall in Dallas and we just hit it off. We set up a time to do an interview that night (this was before I started doing video interviews) and the rest is history. Funny enough The Background was also the first band I did a video interview with. We have done interviews, reviews, features, acoustic exclusives, and Shaun has even went to a show and did a review for us. Very thankful for meeting Shaun at that show and the friendship that grew from it. Shaun has always been such a close friend and made me feel like I belonged when I didn’t really feel I did. He is someone I have always been able to rely on. Take a look below and see what we’ve worked on together.

Mike Abiuso (The Venetia Fair/SwitchBitch/Behind The Curtains Media)

I connected with Mike while setting up our first interview with The Venetia Fair. We had chatted back and forth some prior to the concert and then met up at the show. We seemed to just really hit it off. We worked with The Venetia Fair multiple times and Mike even more than that through SwitchBitch and Behind The Curtains. He also created a song for BareBones for our 1 year anniversary, and fan voted winner of our 5 year BareBones Ent MVP award. He has always been available if I had any questions, had my back on various endeavors, and is such a reliable friend. We have maintained a great friendship through the years and the dude means the world to me.

Set It Off

Set It Off was my first band on a bigger label that I was given a chance to work with. I’ll be honest, I reached out to the publicist with Equal Vision Records to try to interview Say Anything and she offered me Set It Off instead. From my first listen on the not yet released Cinematics, I knew this band was special and have stayed in my top 5 favorite bands ever since. I burned through so many playthroughs on that review copy and pre-ordered right away. This was the first album I reviewed for BareBones Ent! I first saw them on tour with Handguns (same show The Background was opening) at Sons Of Hermann Hall. I went up to the band after the show, and they were the absolutely nicest people. They all signed posters for me to give away to readers (again wasn’t doing videos at this time), chatted with me at the show, remembered my interview, and Maxx even called and recorded a voicemail for my friend who couldn’t be there. Every time I saw them, they remembered me and would hang, which is special for an interviewer since they do so many. My Warped tour interview with Maxx and Zach is probably one of the worst interviews I have ever done as the hecticness of getting in and jumping into interviewing right away led to me almost passing out in the middle of the interview. Set It Off was one of the first bands that people considered a BareBones band and won many awards with us over the years. I cannot thank the band enough for everything they have done for us over the years and consistently being the most solid dudes.

Catalyst Publicity (Jen Appel Wilson)

Jen was the first publicist that took a chance on me and started giving me bands that I could work with and grow with. I don’t know how long it would have taken to start building some experience and connections without her. She always made herself available to hear me out, offer advice, along with opportunities that I had probably not earned yet. Jen and her team also ran press for So What?! here in Dallas so we got the chance to meet them in person, which was awesome. I cannot thank them enough for everything and I promise you I would not be here still without them.
