Q and A with Kill Me

Kill Me, a rock band, out of Seattle have had a busy summer after releasing their self-titled album. BareBones Ent was able to catch up with Kill Me to discuss what all they have been up to. Take a look below and see what they had to say when we sat down with them.

BBE: How would you best describe your music to new listeners?
Travis: Sometimes fun and stuff you can dance to, sometimes a little sludgy, sometimes like hitting yourself in the face repeatedly with a piece of wood.

Cameron: Heavy, but not into the extreme in anyway. A good mix of sludge, punk, and metal.

Mike: Sludgepop, also the name of our signature popsicles which you can custom order thru our management.

Travis: I’m management, if you see this please don’t ask me for popsicles or really anything.

BBE: I think you have an interesting sound. What type of bands have inspired the type of music that you make?
Mike: Holland Oates

Travis: Dirt Nasty, The Mighty Boosh, The Wiggles and Crazy Town.

Travis: For real though, If I had to pick one currently influential band for each of us without verifying I would say: Travis – Garbage / Cameron – Ceremony (though he’s more on a doomy kick lately) / Mike – Smashmouth

BBE: Is this always the type of music that you wanted to make, or has your sound developed over time?
Travis: This was pretty much the opposite of what the band was initially set out to make. I spent a couple years trying to avoid being a “metal” band, (most of my previous stuff is metal) but here we are. This time we wanted to make something totally new and just follow our impulses and I think for the most part we succeeded.

BBE: You recently released your self-titled album. How long were you working on the album?
Travis: About a year.

BBE: What was the creative process like for it?
Mike: Travis writes lyrics. I integrated some drums into my horn set and started making some beats.

Travis: We made it a point to write the tracklist in order just to try that method out. A lot of the frustration that led to the use of more harsh vocals probably came from Mike buying random horns. We have horns fucking everywhere, it’s like trying to get rid of glitter but with horns.

BBE: How have fans reacted to the album?
Travis: It’s been mixed. I saw one write up on Bloodsluts that called it “sludge” and I thought it was pretty cool that someone noticed what I was going for on guitar there. I saw someone on Instagram say it reminds them of early Slipknot which doesn’t make any sense at all.

BBE: What do you think it is about this album that makes it special?
Travis: Personally? It was a fun experiment. Cameron joined after, so it was me and Mike throwing weird ideas back and forth. The grand scheme of things? Absolutely nothing. We made a bunch of noises we thought sounded cool together.

BBE: What is next for Kill Me?
Travis: We just wrapped up writing the live versions of these songs since becoming a three-piece, so we’ll be focusing on live shows heavily in the near future. We’re also working on some new material that goes in a pretty different direction that we might add to the set list.

Cameron: New material for sure, since I’m now in the band I look forward to what we can come up with as a group. Sonically, I think my bass playing will add a platform on which Travis and Mike can really take off from. New material will certainly be killer.

BBE: What is the best way for fans to keep up with your band?
Travis: Get one of our shirts. You can look down at it and know a little piece of us will always be with you on your body. Nothing between us but skin.

Mike: Stalk us on social media. Buy everything twice.

Cameron: Checking socials, and coming to the future shows.

BBE: Anything else you would like to add?
Travis: The only logical conclusion of capitalism is an oligarchic system, like we have in the United States, where 600,000 people live outside even though there are over 16 million empty houses. Around 1 in 10 American homes are vacant. The richest Americans live on average 10-15 years longer than the poorest Americans and feed you the lie that money can’t buy happiness while your best friend makes a GoFund me for their cancer treatment. Corporations literally draft laws and pay congresspeople to sign them. The best ballot is a brick. Buy our merch.

Cameron: Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.
