Hoodie Allen Concert Experience

On August 20th, we were able to catch the Hoodie Allen concert in Dallas, TX at House of Blues. This was our 3rd time seeing Hoodie and we were pumped for the show. Take a look below and see what this tour was like.

We got to the venue a little late finding parking but moved through the line pretty quickly. Unfortunately, we did miss the meet and greet that was at doors though. The night kicked off with openers Belaganas who I was not familiar with but put on a fun show. They appeared to have a good time on stage and the crowd was feeding it back. Once they completed their set the crowd settled in for the short wait before Hoodie hit the stage.

The lights went out and the crowd went into a deafening roar. Hoodie hit the stage and was absolutely electric. You could feel a surge of excitement run through the crowd. Dallas was hot for the show the second he came out and stayed hot all night.

Hoodie dove straight into his popular songs and kept the crowd’s energy up. Hoodie works a crowd like no other too. He is consistently talking to audience members, asking questions, having things chanted back, and switching out cities for what city he’s in which is always a joy for fans. I really like the fact that there is an effort to spread the music out from over all the records, so there is a nice mixture of tunes. This keeps fans on their toes and each show is different.

Another difference (though I cannot say if this is every tour stop or just Dallas) but there were some issues with tracks, so we got to enjoy some acoustic songs and a yet to be released song. I was pumped to hear some acoustic songs in there even if not planned. I loved the album Americoustic (see Americoustic Review) just for reference. The new song (I don’t want to jump in to and spoil anything) is a fun song and offers some fun crowd interaction.

Now some staples of a Hoodie Allen show is putting a cake in a fan’s face during “Cake Boy” and cruising the crowd on an inflatable raft. Unfortunately, House Of Blues did not want the cake being done during the show so we did not get that…inside, but he was able to ride out over the crowd on his raft. This was the first time the raft came over me holding it up in any of the shows I’ve seen.

I do want to touch on the encore. Dallas had to chill out to get “No Interruption” to work properly which is cool and crazy at the same time. Once the song was able to really get under way the crowd absolutely lost it. The building was rocking as everyone sang along to the song. There was nothing but smiling faces in the room as the show finished up and everyone headed out.

Remember earlier when I said we didn’t get the cake inside? We headed out and waited by the buses for Hoodie and the crew to exit. He had told the crowd earlier in the night that he already had the cakes and if we all met him out back after the show he would do it. There were maybe 4 or 5 cakes, and was fun to see people getting that moment and memory. Everyone that got a cake in the face were so pumped. Hoodie stayed and took pictures with everyone that waited for him out there and talked with everyone a bit.

Overall, we had a great time at the show as always. Hoodie Allen always puts on a killer show with that electric energy that a crowd can feed off all night. I highly recommend you catching Hoodie on tour when he comes through your town. While this leg of the tour is closing up you can pretty much guarantee he’ll be on the road again soon.
