Pop punk legend, Jaret Ray Reddick (Bowling For Soup), is making the jump to country music. While we, too, were surprised at first; it does make some sense with his love of home state Texas. Jaret’s debut country album will release this Friday, March 11th, which will also debut his first country song. BareBones Ent luckily was able to get a copy to check out so that we can let you know if this is worth grabbing.

We couldn’t wait to get our hands on this album to see how this would turn out, and let me tell you we were not disappointed. Just Woke Up kicks off with “Way More Country” featuring freaking Uncle Kracker. This song just kicks ass to keep it simple. It has a good southern rock feel to it, and is an awesome way to start off the album and ease listeners into the country side of things. I loved the commentary throughout the song too, because it just sounds like they had a blast making the song which makes it even more fun to listen to.
A couple songs later you have the first single that will be released with the album, “Songs About Texas”, which features a bunch of popular things about the great state of Texas. My wife is a Texas lover, herself, and loved everything about this song. If you love Texas then this is a jam for you. Followed directly by another great Texas song, “Ohio (Come Back To Texas)” a country cover of popular Bowling For Soup song. If you love the original then this one is just as good with some added twang.
I want to talk about one of my favorite songs on the album, “Doggonit!”. This song is just top notch, and such a good country song. This is the song you can roll the windows down, blare it, and just have a blast. Side note I looked at my wife and told her “There you go”, and she rolled her eyes at me and said, “yeah right”. So men you’ve been warned.
There are so many rad songs on the album, but there is one more I specifically want to talk about. You know your country music stereotypes about heartbreak, your dog, and your good ol’ chevy? Well Jaret took all of them and gave it a fresh twist sure to make your country heart sing. “My Truck Up And Left Me”, is pretty self-explanatory and is absolutely amazing and hilarious.

Just Woke Up is a perfect debut country album for Jaret Ray Reddick. I’m not a big country fan and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole album. The album features everything from Texas pride, songs about heartbreak, funny songs, and some fun covers. I believe the album is a quality pick up for Bowling For Soup fans and country fans alike. If you like Bowling For Soup, I think you will still like the album even though it’s country. Some of it’s like Bowling For Soup with a twang. Also, Jaret still gets some good Motley Crue references in there.
