Q and A with Close To Monday

Close To Monday is a genre bending band that is giving you music to reflect on. The band has been keeping very busy in 2024 with monthly single releases. BareBones Ent got the chance to sit down with Close To Monday to discuss their music, first ever US tour and much more. Take a walk with us and see what all Close To Monday had to say.

BBE: For people that may not have heard your music before, how would you best describe your sound?
Alexander:
Our sound blends electronic elements with deep emotions. We pull from genres like dark wave, modern techno, and even pop, but we don’t like to define ourselves by just one style. It’s a mix of atmospheric synths, emotional lyrics, and beats that keep evolving. We aim to create a sound that resonates with both the heart and the mind, where you can feel something personal and introspective.

BBE: Was this always the type of music you wanted to make, or has it changed over time?
Alexander:
It has definitely evolved. When Close To Monday first started, it was purely an instrumental project, but once Anna joined and we began adding lyrics, our sound really took shape. We’re not confined to one genre, and that’s something that’s changed over time as we’ve grown more comfortable exploring different musical styles. It’s been a natural progression as we’ve followed our emotions and instincts.

BBE: You have had a busy 2024 releasing monthly singles. What has that undertaking been like for you?
Anna:
Honestly, releasing singles every month has come quite naturally to us. We’re in a constant flow of music creation, so it doesn’t feel overwhelming. More importantly, it helps us stay in constant connection with our listeners, and we really value that ongoing relationship.

BBE: What changes have you seen from releasing a new single every month as opposed to other release formats?
Alexander:
Releasing monthly singles gives us a continuous connection with our audience. Instead of waiting for an album, listeners get something fresh from us regularly, and it keeps the conversation going. We’ve noticed that it keeps our music and themes more relevant to what’s happening in real-time, both in our lives and in the world.

BBE: Is there a release that seems to have stood out with fans more than others that may have surprised you?
Anna:
Each release connects differently with people, but “Different” has had a particularly strong reaction. We thought its pop elements and upbeat feel might be a shift for our listeners, but they’ve embraced it. The song’s message about staying true to yourself in a digital world seems to really resonate.

BBE: You released Different at the end of August. What does that song mean to you?
Anna:
“Different” is very personal to us. It’s about how people are losing themselves by conforming to social media trends and digital validation. We want to encourage people to hold on to their individuality, to be proud of who they are and not feel pressured to fit in. It’s both a reflection on the world we live in and a call to stay true to yourself.

BBE: How have fans reacted to the song?
Alexander:
The reaction has been really positive. Listeners seem to connect with the lyrics and the energy of the track. We’re getting messages from people who say the song makes them think about how they present themselves online, which is exactly what we were hoping for.

BBE: Will these songs remain singles, or are you able to say if these are being compiled for a larger release?
Alexander:
We do plan to break away from the single-per-month format soon. While it’s been fun, we’re aiming for a full album release where people can spend a longer time in our world. It will be a complete experience, with all the songs coming together to tell a bigger story.

BBE: You played your first-ever grouping of US tour dates. What were you most excited about with these shows?
Anna:
We’ve just returned from the tour, and we’re absolutely thrilled by how warmly we were welcomed. The way people listened and understood what we’re trying to express through our music was incredible. That connection with the audience is the most valuable thing for us.

BBE: For fans that haven’t yet gotten to see you. What would you tell them to prepare for when coming to one of your shows?

Alexander: Expect to dive deep into an emotional and musical journey. Our shows are designed to create an atmosphere where the audience can fully immerse themselves in the music, feeling everything from the beats to the lyrics. It’s all about sharing an experience together.

BBE: Are you able to share if you will be planning any additional US shows?

Anna: We definitely plan to return to the U.S. There are some ideas we still want to bring to life with our performances. Stay tuned to our social media for updates—we’ll be sharing more soon!

BBE: What is the best way for fans to stay in touch and up-to-date with your releases and news?

Anna: The best way is through our social media channels and our website. We’re active on Instagram where we keep everyone up to date on new releases, tour dates, and other news.

BBE: Anything else you would like to add?

Alexander: We just want to thank everyone who’s been listening to our music and supporting us. This journey is so much more meaningful because of the connection we feel with our fans. We can’t wait to share even more with you soon!
