We got the chance to catch up with our friend lolitslea! She has been keeping busy since we talked last, and we’ve been excited to see what all she has going on. Take a look with us below and check out what all we had to discuss about her latest singles, her upcoming debut album, Nothing Lasts Forever, and much more.
BBE: It’s great to have you again here at BareBones Ent! How have you been?
lolitslea: Hi friend! Happy to be back. Life has been great, lots of moving parts. I was working towards so many fun things up until this moment and I’m glad the time is finally here to debut them.
BBE: I can’t believe we are already over halfway through 2024 already. What has this year been like for you?
lolitslea: LET ME TELL YOU, when you have a release lined up every single month, a month feels like a week and this year has been flying. I made another big move, have been traveling every month to a new city to perform, and have been gearing up for this album’s release.
BBE: You have had a couple of singles come out recently. You released “Favorite Singer”, and more recently “Call It A Fling”. How do these singles feel compared to your previous work?
lolitslea: They feel so elevated. My one producer, Chase Coy, and I have been considering these songs similar to the last EP, but leveled up! I didn’t realize how much my sound has grown until I listened to the last EP and the album side by side. I really nailed down my pop punk singing style and am trying new things I’ve never done before. To me it feels so refreshing and addictive.
BBE: What was the creation process like on these songs?
lolitslea: The process was vastly different for the two. I wrote “Favorite Singer” much earlier and shelved it for a bit until I had more music to put out. I wrote both songs how I usually write, isolated and whispering into my phone lol, but took them to different producers. “Favorite Singer“ was produced by Chase Coy, who did my previous EP. With that song, we got really comfortable with my new sound and decided to keep with that style that feels very “lolitslea”. I think we did a great job keeping my favorite parts of the new sound I developed, but adding in those new moments. I had started to work with more producers as the year [2023] went on and that’s when I met Roye Robley. I brought 3 new songs to him, including “Call It A Fling”. Working with Roye brought variety to my work, while expanding on the instrumental ideas I had in my brain. A totally different process with a similar turnout. I’m excited for people to experience this more with the album.
BBE: How have fans reacted to those songs?
lolitslea: I’ve heard such wonderful things. The feedback and the response has honestly been better than I imagined. I think every artist gets a bit nervous after not releasing original music for a while. There’s always the thought of “Is this going to be good enough? What if they like my older stuff better? Do people still want new music?” but you’ll never know if you don’t try and after planning this project out for over a year, I was ready to unleash it!
BBE: What was it about those 2 songs that made you want to release those for singles?
lolitslea: These songs are being released in the order I experienced & wrote them. A common theme I’ve noticed with my music is I like to tell stories chronologically and that includes the order I release them in! You’ll notice that with the album, too. “Favorite Singer” was locked and loaded and ready to be released. I thought it would be a really fun one to kick off with. I also think “Call It A Fling” is a strongly arranged song and would appeal to your everyday pop punk listener, so with that, it felt right to put it second. Third, which you’ll hear very soon, has some incredible featured artists on it, which I think will continue to engage listeners and get them excited! There’s a plan for everything!
BBE: I am so pumped for you, my friend, that you have your debut album, Nothing Lasts Forever!, coming out this year! How did this come about?
lolitslea: Thank you! It’s a dream come true to be able to put out an album. I honestly had the opposite of a writer’s block this past year and wrote such a fun story, song after song, that I was like “wait, I can totally group this into a project!) and that’s exactly what I did!
BBE: What does that feel like for you to have worked on and to be releasing your debut album?
lolitslea: I feel very fortunate as an independent artist to be able to release an album at this stage. I think it’s something all artists dream of being able to do. To have enough stuff to write about, the time, the moments and memories to tell such a long story. To be continually inspired that you can’t stop writing. And of course, to have enough time and money (which is the hardest part) to see your project through.
BBE: Is it brutal to have all this awesome work done, and not be able to just throw it out to fans? It is so tough for me to sit on a creation, haha.
lolitslea: Ooh, good question! Umm, I think no because I get to plan and curate how the fans/my audience will receive it. That to me is so fun– to research ideas and create content around each release. I need all the time I can get to do it right! But of course, at the same time, I’ve listened to this record probably 500 times and I sometimes think “I wish people could listen with me!”, haha.
BBE: What information can you give us about the album?
lolitslea: Most of it’s already public knowledge, but I’ll try and share something exclusive here! I mean, it’s 8 tracks, there are 4 featured artists on it, and what most people might not have caught on to yet, is that it encompasses moving linearly through time, experiencing life moment by moment and the reflection of that. After all, Nothing Lasts Forever! Hehe. Visually– we’re literally on an airplane as we travel city to city, right? But for the album, I use space and a rocket ship to really emphasize that feeling!
BBE: Will there be an accompanying tour for it?
lolitslea: Absolutely! October 2024 myself and the my friends, davvn, are hitting 7 cities on the east coast! All tickets and details can be found on my website at lolitslea.com
BBE: What is the best way for fans to stay up to date on that information?
lolitslea: Definitely social media, but in case your algorithm suppresses my content, I’d encourage you to join my Street Team broadcast channel on Instagram AND my email list which you can find on my website!
BBE: Anything else you would like to say to your fans out there?
lolitslea: I really hope you enjoy the music I’m putting out and what’s to come and that it gives you good vibes, feelings, and opportunities to dance, make new friends, and stay inspired! I’m beyond appreciative of the support from new and old friends, for it means so much as an up and coming artist <3
