Q and A with Lolo

Canadian pop rock artist Lolo has been on an absolute tear releasing numerous great songs and touring the world. We were able to catch her set at So What?! and are pumped to see her again some time. BareBones Ent got the chance to chat with Lolo and talk about her music, touring, and some recent highlights.

BBE: How would you best describe your music to new listeners?

Lolo: I’d describe it as singer/songwriter-pop-rock. It’s brutally honest, sometimes very aggressive, and sometimes very sad lol

BBE: What do you think it is about your music that helps you to stand out?

Lolo: I think the fact that my lyrics are so honest (sometimes too honest). A lot of the time my goal is to make people say “wait, did she actually just say that?”

BBE: Unfortunately, we were unable to meet up at So What?! Music Festival, but we did catch your set. There were some technical issues due to the brutal heat, but it was still a really good set. How was So What for you?

Lolo: Not gonna lie, my So What set was by far the worst of my entire life. I rehearsed such an awesome set and it was disappointing that I didn’t get to do that. What happened on stage is probably every artist’s nightmare— BUT, hey, it happens. And it was definitely very funny and spontaneous, and an interesting learning experience…a show I’ll never forget!

BBE: Speaking of the heat, I did want to shout out (and I did in my review as well) that you stopped playing when some fans in the audience fainted or were struggling and wouldn’t play again until they received help. That really stood out to me about how you care about your fans. So it’s time to gush. What does it mean to you to look out from the stage and see a nice size crowd out there to see you?

Lolo: Omg of course! Everyone’s safety is way more important to me than my set, obviously and I’m sure anyone else would have stopped! It always shocks me to see such a big crowd to be honest. I’m always like…what? You’re here to see me ?? That doesn’t make sense in my head. It really does mean everything to me.

BBE: How do you approach a festival show compared to one of your normal shows?

Lolo: Honestly, probably the same? But the great thing about a festival show is that it’s usually a bigger crowd — so a lot more fan discovery/people who don’t know who the f**k I am, rather than my own fans who are actually there to see me. So that’s always fun, to try to win over the entire crowd.

BBE: Aside from So What you have had some other cool moments recently too. Like being part of the Heavy Music Awards. What was that experience like for you?

Lolo: That was AWESOME. It was my first award show where I got to walk the red carpet, which was very cool. As soon as I got off, I got told that I was presenting the first award of the night because somebody else dropped out and I was like WOAH WHAT IS HAPPENING. That was a really really cool (& scary) moment.

BBE: On the topic of cool things going on for you, you are going to be part of the Boys Like Girls tour with a ton of awesome bands. What are you most excited about for this tour?

Lolo: Omg I’m soooo stoked for this tour!!! For so many reasons it will be hard to pick one. I haven’t toured the states since my first EVER tour (with New Found Glory) so I’m really excited to be back in all of those cities. Plus, I grew up listening to BLG and 3OH!3 so I’m soooo excited to get to tour with them. And I’ve toured with The Summer Set before, who I LOVE, and we’re sharing a tour bus…so I’m very pumped for that. All around going to be such a sick experience.

BBE: You are going to be playing every date of this tour. What are some tour essentials for you?

Lolo: F**K YA I AM. Hmm… some essentials would be: tour bus slippers, vocal vape, post show red wine, Nintendo switch and lots of plaid skirts.

BBE: I have to add as I’m an avid Switch gamer myself (a lot of Pokemon and Fire Emblem). What are you currently playing?

Lolo: I’m a Mario kart/Zelda gal!

BBE: You have a song that just dropped this month called, “Hot girls In Hell”. Are we going to be hearing this song on tour?

Lolo: YES definitely. It is one of my favorite songs to play in the set, because I also play guitar for it which is always fun!

BBE: What is the best way for fans to keep up to date with everything you have going on?

Lolo: Follow me on spotify/apple/amazon etc LØLØ, instagram @lolo , TIK TOK + twitter @lolopopgurl 🙂
