The Venetia Fair will be releasing their covers EP, …Basically Just Does Karaoke, on Christmas Eve or December 24th. The EP was recorded and produced by Mike Abiuso of The Venetia Fair and SwitchBitch Records, with additional mixing, tracking, and mastering at The Square Studio by Steve Sopchak.  This EP has been created due to the band’s Kickstarter campaign for their album, Every Sick, Disgusting Thought We’ve Got In Our Brains.  Fans got the opportunity to choose the songs that would be covered on this EP through the Kickstarter.  Let’s dive right in and see how much the boys of The Venetia Fair wrecked these classics.

They kick off the album with what I would deem the most daunting of songs in “Bohemian Rhapsody,” by Queen.  Before listening to the song I have always said that no one should touch the legendary Queen, but now I have changed that view point to no one except The Venetia Fair.  Their frantic take on the classic works perfectly and sounds great.  Quickly making me anxious for the rest of the album.

Keeping up the pace The Venetia Fair moves on to “Come On Eileen,” by Dexy’s Midnight Runner.  This is a fun take on the song that keeps up the pace and has everyone singing along with its catchy chorus.  Let’s jump to the next song.

Did anyone really think Benny wasn’t going to absolute kill it in a cover of “Rock Lobster,” by The B-52’s?  We all know the love there.  Nothing else needs to be said here.

One more song I want to talk about “Jesus of Suburbia,” by Green Day.  The cover seems to stay fairly faithful to the original, but in my opinion improving upon it.  Not often do I find a cover that I like more than the original but this would be one of those.

The following two songs I would consider to be the lesser known ones of the EP, but close it out nicely together. The last two songs on the EP are “Camouflage, Camouflage,” by The Blood Brothers and “The Willing Well III: Apollo II: The Telling Truth,” by Coheed and Cambria.
