2014 is going to be a big year for many bands, and there are some you definitely need to be on the look out for because they are primed to have a big year! Here’s the BareBones Ent’s top 10 bands you need to know in 2014!
1. Set It Off
We couldn’t start any list of bands you should know without our friends and 2 years in a row BareBones Band of the Year Set It Off! We’ve been behind them for years now, and it has been amazing to see how fast they’ve grown! 2013 saw them re-release their awesome album Cinematics, play South By So What twice, and the bands first Vans Warped Tour! If you haven’t heard Set It Off yet, you’re missing out…and must not have frequented this site much.
We Called it a long time ago saying Issues was going to be huge, and we were right! Their debut self-titled album reached #9 on the Billboard charts this year. The album is absolutely amazing from start to finish. The guys are primed to keep riding this success with many more big tours, festivals, and awards in 2014!
I met Echosmith at last year’s Vans Warped Tour in Dallas, TX and they were just the sweetest kids and so grateful for where they were. Echosmith is one of those bands you meet and you just know they have something special! They’re album Talking Dreams has been out for months now and is still rated 5 stars on iTunes, featured on Teen Nick, and the band is set to take another run on Warped Tour this year! If you haven’t listened to this band yet, then you’re missing the budding of a brilliant future for the band.
Perma is the culmination of Max Bemis (Say Anything) and Sherri Dupree-Bemis (Eisley) love and relationship. Perma is one of those bands fans have been waiting to hear music from for years, and we finally have it! Perma released their debut album Two of a Crime on Oct. 29th, 2013. With the release the band went on a big tour playing their songs for fans across the country. If you’re looking for songs about love and relationships with the awesome writing talents of Max and Sherri this is a band for you. Make sure to check them out this year!
5. Hoodie Allen
In 2013, Hoodie Allen released Crew Cuts and an acoustic ep, Americoustic. Both saw much success and love amongst fans. Also, Hoodie went on a long tour, Party With Your Friends Tour, which saw packed crowds all the way around the country (You can see the Dallas crowd in the picture above). This dude puts on some of the most fun and interactive concerts that you do not want to miss. On a side note, Hoodie saw one of his older songs “James Franco,” actually being played during the Roast of James Franco on Comedy Central. Now in 2014, Hoodie is already hard at work on his next album, which is bound to just build on the success of Crew Cuts and his previous works. Keep a good eye on Hoodie Allen and the anticipated release of his new album later in the year!
6. Picture Me Broken
Things have been quiet so far in 2014 from Picture Me Broken, but, man, was 2013 big for this awesome group! They released their Mannequins EP, which was great and were on a huge tour! By huge tour I mean they were opening for Marilyn Manson and the Alice Cooper every night! Being hand picked by such legends to open is immense praise that this band definitely deserves. I got to meet up a few times this past year with my friends in the band, and you can clearly see they are so thankful for where they are and have worked hard to get there. I’m very excited to see what is next for this band, and can’t wait to see my buddies come back to Dallas!
Merriment has been kind of quiet as of late since the release of their EP, Through The Rough, but they are releasing their debut album, Sway, on April 8, 2014! This is a band that I fell in love with the first time I saw them opening for Say Anything. The music is so beautiful and Christie has an amazing voice that can’t be denied. Don’t miss the release of Sway; it is sure to be a delightful musical journey!
8. The Background
The Background have long been good friends for us here at BareBones Ent, and we have been so happy to see how big 2013 was for the guys! The band released new singles, played Warped Tour and other big shows, and released their new EP, Sunrise. Come 2014, they’re battling it out for Warped Tour again, and have released an awesome new music video for “Work It Out.” Can’t wait to see what else is in store for these guys!
9. Weerd Science
Weerd Science is the brain child of Coheed and Cambria dummer, Josh Eppard. This rap project has been around for a good while now, and has consistently improved upon previous albums. In 2013, Weerd Science released Red Light Juliet which was a really good album. Now in 2014, he has released the sequel Red Light Juliet 2 which is even better. The songs are deep, personal, and sometimes dark, but all fantastic. If you’re in the mood to hear some genuine music that may surprise you check out Weerd Science.
10. Famous Last Words
Last year, Famous Last Words released the incredible album Two Faced Charade, which received a 5 star rating from us. We absolutely loved the album and the fantastic storytelling. The band went on numerous great tours and is set to continue that in 2014. The band is currently working on their follow up to Two Faced Charade, and have already released the first single, “Council of the Dead.” We’re very stoked to hear how the rest of the album turns out!
Motley Crue was not included on my list because all of you know who they are! But no one can deny that this is a huge year for the Crue. Motley will embark on their final tour (ever) as a band. You can try to call their bluff but the band has went above and beyond to ensure fans that they will not return again, even signing legal documentation to cease touring after this tour. Motley always puts on an awesome show, and there is no doubt that this tour will be their biggest and most epic yet! DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!
